Celebrate Your Good
In the face of challenges and uncertainty, celebrate your good. When the "givens" of your life start
to crumble, change your view. Focus on the elements that still serve you well. These may not be material things,
but therein lies the lesson. Look for the kernel of hope in your transformed environment.
If there are two or three people who love you, plan a celebration. If you have one or more true friends, get up and
dance around the room. If your small vegetable garden yields only cucumbers, joyfully prepare a salad or pickles.
Forget about the corn, cabbage and tomatoes eaten by deer, squirrels and rabbits.(Here I speak from experience.) Next
year, plant enough for all of you. Sometimes it seems that there
are problems everywhere you look. If you view the situation from another perspective, you will notice that there are
also blessings everywhere you look. A problem can become a blessing, containing opportunities that are
not immediately apparent. For example, a person may complain that she cannot afford a vacation at the beach. There
may be an elderly neighbor or church member who owns a beachfront condo. For health reasons, he or she may not be able
to travel and would not mind letting you use it. Get to know people. Find out where the opportunities lie.
This works best if you are also willing to share what you have with others.
When I was a child, my grandfather founded a Mutual Benefit Society in our section of town. People established a much
needed grocery store in the area by purchasing one dollar shares. Everyone benefitted by not having to travel long distances
to shop for groceries. Use your imagination to create ways we can support each other and help each other achieve our
goals. There is good everywhere when we share our visions and help each other to succeed.
Name and claim your good. Focus on it, and trust the Divine Spirit in you to guide you to it. Then, celebrate
and, as my father would say, "Give God the glory!" Love and light, Patricia Churchill
